The paper changes color as you keep blowing down the straw. This is a well-known experiment in chemistry classes in which a bit of litmus paper (which changes color as pH changes) is placed in the glass. ![]() The rate at which this happens is dependent on the amount of CO2 already in the water, but you can boost the process by blowing down a straw into the water. CO2 is a gas that is soluble in any water of any kind, whether or not there are organisms living in the water. The short answer is that yes, even a glass of water will absorb CO2.
